One this trip to Las Vegas, I was able to stop and check out 2 different Cupcakes Bakeries. First stop was Retro Cupcake although it was the farthest drive for a cupcake fix about 30 mins from downtown Las Vegas. The cupcake flavors were original and unique, Like most other bakeries they had no sit down dining area, which was a disappointment since Sammi & I had to take our cupcakes to McDonald’s across the street so that we could sit down and enjoy them. Sammi had the Mint Chocolate Chip and I choose the Milk & Cookies.

I may be just a little bit prejudice to this bakery, since when I walk by every morning on my way to work the smell of the fresh baking cupcakes is the best way to start my day. If only they were open at 6:30 in the morning. I enjoy being able to watch the bakers hand decorate each cupcake and cookie through the glass windows.

On this visit I decided to try a variety of different cupcakes:

The Red Velvet cupcake is definitely everyone’s favorite and I can see why the cream cheese frosting just melts in your mouth.

The Lilikoi cupcake has to be my favorite, it has just the right amount of passion fruit extract to make this the perfect cupcake.

The flavor of the month this past summer was a Coffee & Kahlua cupcake, although I’m not an avid coffee drinker, it was delicious and would be perfect for all those Starbucks lovers.

Although not in the current picture my all time favorite Hokulani Cupcake is the Classic Vanilla Burbon

Hello Cupcake

Located in downtown Washington D.C right by Dupont Circle, Hello Cupcake has some great things. With a unique menu and a wide variety of cupcakes there will sure be something to satisfy you sweet tooth. I decided to try a Hello Cupcake Original in Vanilla and a Prima Donna.

The Hello Cupcake Original was Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Frosting with a few sprinkles. It was very moist and I can see why it is one of their best sellers.

The Prima Donna was a Chocolate Cake with Strawberry Frosting and some sugar sprinkles. The cake was very rich and the frosting was a little too sweet for me.

This place had great decor and a constant flow of customers, I also liked that they had a seating area and a restroom available. I am sure this place will be around for years to come, with their friendly staff & great location this should be a stop the next time your in downtown Washington D.C.

In my quest for the next great cupcake, I had many people mention to me how I needed to try Cupcakery in Las Vegas, NV. So during my last trip in Sin City in May I decided to give it a try. What I really like about Cupcakery is that they offer a variety box so that you can sample many different flavors for those of us who have a hard time choosing just one. One of the things I notice with most of the bakery’s I visit is their lack of dining space, this is the case here. I would be great to have a place where you can sit down and enjoy your sweet treat, instead of just getting it to go.

On this visit I decided on the Orange Julius & the Starwberry Shortcake.

Orange Julius is a orange pineapple cake with a heavy orange cream frosting.

Strawberry Shortcake is layers of strawberry & vanilla cake topped with strawberry buttercream frosting.

These cupcakes will really hit the spot especially on a hot day in Vegas. If only they could deliver to Hawaii that would be perfect.
